Beastie Boys Samples
The Beastie Boys have sampled Richard a few times on various albums. There is a particular sample that could be Richard. It appears on the Beasties Ill Communication album of 1994. It's on the track BBoys Makin with the Freak Freak. And the sample says, "shit...if it's gonna be that kinda party i'm gonna stick my dick in the mashed potatoes"
Can anyone tell me if this is in fact Richard Pryor and if so, which of his albums does it appear on.
Thanks.

Laver,
On the albums you know they used Richards sample ,didn't they list it in the credits?? They would have had to gotten permission I think,If they didn't they might a problem with some LAWYERS soon.
welcome to the site of THE MAN IN CHARGE aka RICHARD PRYOR

bcddjjsc690,
I'm not a copyright/sampling lawyer but I think the laws have been revised on this a few times. This album was recorded 1993/94 and I don't think the laws were the same.
I'm sure they got all the necessary approvals and permission to use the samples, but they did not necessarily list them in their credits as they are way too many.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!

Re: Beastie Boys Samples
Thanks for the links bingalong. One of the links showed one of the samples.
This is a sample that is a mystery in the Beastie fan community. Other folks that have been brought up are Redd Foxx, Robin Harris, Rudy Ray Moore.
Since Beasties use a ton of samples, they have a team of lawyers that always clears these samples. To my knowledge there has only been on lawsuit which was dismissed. So I'm not trying to stir up anything that the Beasties illegally used a sample...

Laver,
I am not sure but I know if you copy someones songs that it is not copyright infringement if you do so many bars of something....then you stop.....then you can do it again....but it is good when you get permission to do this .....like if you do over eight bars ....but then again I am not sure...sometimes I have no Idea of what I am talking about...

The sample in question is.
"If it's going to be that kinda party, I'm gonna stick my dick in the mashed potatos"
Does anyone recognize this as Richard Pryor? If so, where did it appear?

Anditsdeeptoo,
Wow....that's good news. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to search through Richard's various routines. I'd love to find the album it's on.
