For all my old school hip-hop fans...Man that Big Daddy Kane went the hell off!! When I saw LL and Melle Mel up in the stands reciting the verses and Ice T. bow down at the end of the performance I knew it was on.
Big Daddy Kane ripped that shit so damn hard with the aid of Biz Markie,Common,T.I. & Black Thought .Even the the most anticipated set for the Notorious B.I.G. had a hard time following Big Daddy's. Maybe because Kane has been slightly M.I.A. for a few years but man that whole spot felt like a breath of fresh air.... when Kane broke out them classic dance routines I damn near lost it!!
....and everyone I talks to agree!!!
I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!
bingolong,
Man! You spoke my words! The whole kane set felt like ... well, HipHop! Hadn't been on tv for a while now. When Kane started dancing ... WHOOO! YO! Bring that SWING back to the music, please. Hiphop always works best on up-tempo jazzy beats! Peace to black thought for out Kane-ing Kane!
Yeah Salt-N-Pepa was supposed to be in some tight biker short outfits and at least performed "My Mic Sounds Nice","Push It", and then go into that En Vouge joint!! Cool J had the potential to have a set just as good as Kane's but he limited himself to "Mama"!! I want some "Radio","Jack The Ripper", and "Rock The Bells"....hell I would have been hype if the boy did "Going Back to Cali" !!
Now Ice T.'s and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five's set were both off the chain for sure so don't get it twisted........but the compared to Kane they were "just a butter knife" and Kane was a "machete"!!!
P.S.I won't say Black Thought out Kane'd Kane but that song "Set It Off" that he did was and still is so dope it was hard to go wrong with it....by the way did you hear the last Roots album where Black Though did an homage to both Kane and Kool G Rap?DOPE!!!

To Me, Kane is still lyrically tight! I remember he did a joint with Jurassic 5 (I think that it's called "A day at the races" and he just ripped shit up!
I used to like "Dance with the Devil" and "Young Gifted & Black", Kane's rhyme skills would still get a lotta heads nodding today, no question.
Okay, where to start? Salt and Pepa probably won't be going that sexy anymore because Salt found Jesus. I'm sure the savior wouldn't mind seeing that ass shake again. He is a man, afterall.
I disagree on the furious five set. They were a little sloppy, but Mel made it up with his "ERRRR-UHH!" growl at the end.
Yeah, I have that j5 album. Now, Kane came wit it...but j5's flow was better on that particular song. I'm not dissin' Kane. I just think he lost some of that flow.
Speaking of Kane ... afew years back, my brother made me aware of a battle between him and Rakim that totally went over my head. Example?
"I'm the smooth operator," Kane.
"The smooth operator operatin' CORRECTLY," Rakim.
They got mad back and forth subliminal snipes on several songs. Don't ask me to name them, cause I forgot. Just study their old albums.
bingolong,
Damn! One more thing. Yeah I did hear that roots song. Funny story: When thought played it for GRap, Grap said, "Yo you sound just like kane, man!" When he played it for Kane, Kane said, "Yo you sound just like Grap, man!" Thought got both voices perfectly.
bumperhead,
Yeah just as I was reading your post I was watching Furious Five Performances and you are right....it's like they were the original Wu-Tang with all those kneckas on stage!!!
Yeah and Salt better get out there and "Push It" so she can pay her tithes on Sunday!!!!Hell even Queen Latifah was in the crowd screaming do "SHAKE YO THANG"!!!!
http://www.allhiphop.com/features/?ID=1190 - Here's a little ( and I do mean a little insight into the battle.....which would have been the Jay-Z (Kane) & Nas (Rakim) battle of it's day!!!!'

Actually, I remeber hearing quite a lot about this "battle" a few years back. It never surfaced into an actual confrontation, but there were subliminal references. I think that there is a Eric B and Rakim video where Rakim is wearing a general's uniform and he breaks his "cane" as part of his rap.
Personally I think that Rakim is a deeper lyricist, but in a live battle Kane would've come out on top because he had more battle rhymes!
