Why does every article I read in magazines like LA Weekly, EW and other big periodicals dis Jay Leno as stale, and nowhere near as fresh and funny as Letterman, among other things (including "safe").
I think Leno is funny. The videotaped bits on TS suck, and his interview techniques leave a lot to be desired but his monologues make me laugh everytime. And some people suggest he's a safe comedian...."safe"? He's talks about the president and politics all of the time, as well as other contraversial stuff. He's been doing this stand up thing for years and still goes out to do stand up shows on the weekends. Give the man his props! He's a comics' comic!
In comparision, Lettermen is dry and droll. Conan is funny only because of the wacky characters and bits (many of which were thought up by Rob Smigel) Conan monolgues are stiff.....
