How to write material....?
Alot of you new jacks are using the same tired premises' that have been used time and time again. BE ORIGINAL. Dave Tyree and Paul Mooney once said that if you do you, no one can steal you.
Richard Pryor has so much material...and I said has you don't loose it when your away from the stage just your timing is off. If your a good study of comedy you'll see that the great ones have done it all so your next move is to talk about your life, experiences or point of view on life. Because....Shanenae is Flip Wilson's Geraldine, Homey the Clown was Written by Paul Mooney not Damon Wayans, and In Living Color is just the Richard Pryor show and Flip Wilson show combined. Hollywood doesn't take risks anymore thats why we have the same crap on tv or the same actors and comics doing the same roles. Comedy is a RISK do edgy material, push the envelope and DON'T GIVE A FUCK...! you'll rip everytime. Comedy is my day job and sometimes I'm one check away from being homeless, but I take the risk....EVERYDAY....just like Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, George Carlin, Bill Cosby..the great ones...Good luck on taking your own risks....

Robbie,
you're so right, seems like noone takes a chance or real risks. it's the only way to do something truly special.![Devil ]:o)](./images/smilies/lildevil.gif)

No one taking chances and we re coming to see you leap off into that majestic void -tell us again-where and when and we are there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And thank you for clarifying for the 'youngsters' just who did what-I thought Damon was such a punk for ripping Paul off with Homey! He turned into a total light weight!jenny

Robbie,
You are so right. I was having a conversation the other day with a wife of another comic and I came to realize that the reason why it is so hard to get people to listen to live comedy (even when it is free) is because there are so many mediocre comics out there spinning the same hack premises. When you ask someone to come out and see comedy they tend to ask, "Well are they funny?" During Richard's time that was never a question there were so many great guys. It is really heart breaking. Especially when you see some of these slack ass comics making big money. I always say to my husband that I am not at the stage yet where I can be brutally honest with myself and expose myself on stage like Richard did but I am working on it every day. I really think that the more confident you get the easier this comes. Nothing is better than watching a comic really twist something that we have heard so many times before. You respect them so much. And that is the art isn't it. It is not the subject matter because to tell you the truth nothing is new under the sun. If one comic thinks of it someone else has before him or her. The art is taking that subject and bringing the audience to a new way of looking at it. Again it is not that easy but this is what draws the line between an ok comic and a great comic.
Keep posting Robbie you are a treasure.
