Billy Preston...

Post by robfharris »

b.b
Although he received a kidney transplant in 2002, his health continued to deteriorate. He died on June 6, 2006 in Scottsdale, Arizona, due to complications of malignant hypertension that resulted in kidney failure and other complications. He had been in a coma since November 21, 2005.

There is nothing I could say about him that you can't hear for yourself.
Now that Johnnie's gone, I guess I should start being nice to the cops.

robfharris,

hey there long time no "read". :) but I was just about to post this earlier when the news alert came. I actually stopped and said wow when it flashed across PDA. what a legend.

man I know God is having some serious summer concerts and winter jams because he's calling home a lot of legends at once.

Billy Preston's music is one of the few I will stop and listen to when it's aired on radio or cable. they don't make good stuff like that no more.

he will always be remembered and loved, that is for sure. ):)

yall,

his duet w/Syreeta Wright "With You I'm Born Again" gets to me everytime. and that beautiful sister, Syreeta, died of cancer recently. and of course The Beatles' Let It Be and Cocker's You Are So Beautiful. timeless and priceless.

man maybe it's time for me to go. think about it, God has Richard Pryor, Lou Rawls, Luther, Phyllis Hyman, Billie Holliday, Duke Ellington, Redd Foxx, Hendrix, Janis Joplin, George Harrison, John Lennon, TuPac, Jam Master Jay, Eazy-E and quite a few other legends. and now Billy Preston. figured if I get there early, I can get good seats for the shows. B-) and no you can't have none of my tix if I can't make a show. I'll put 'em up on Heaven-Bay for major bucks sale.

tis2flyyy,
Yeah, this one touched me also. He made such beautiful songs that meant so much. He was in a league all his own and didn't let the industry define him. That huge afro and that smile said it all.
"With you I'm Born Again" is so hauntingly beautiful, it can't do nothing but get at your heart. But the one that instantly popped into my mind thinking about him yesterday was a Beatles tune he performed with them on the rooftop of Apple Headquarters called "Don't Let Me Down". I just watched this performance a few weeks ago on DVD and I was actually intrigued by how Billy was able to integrate himself into the greatest rock band of all time. And he was only about 20-22 at the time. No one else was able to do that in all their history and he actually made the Beatles better being there. That organ made all the difference. I think that rooftop gig was also their final live performance as a group. Pretty incredible achievement and pretty incredible artist. I'll miss him and I defintely won't "Let You Down". :)

plans to change the game and free minds!
