Hey Michael,
PLEASE DON'T GET DISCOURAGED!!!
Bad nights happen to all of us and yes they SUCK to go through but without them, we'll never learn and grow. Tough nights on stage aren't unlike the training a boxer endures before a fight. Everytime he spars, he takes a hit and might even lose some blood but he becomes stronger and better with every workout. That's what last Saturday was for you honey--a workout--NOT a fall.

funkycomic,
I fall flat on my face all the time and not just during a performance.
An old friend of mine from back home was murdered over the weekend by her guy who then turned the gun on himself so things aren't so bad when we bomb on stage.
I'm sure that you're doing alright funky because if you didn't fall flat on your face once-in-a-while you'd eventually lose your edge.

Inkblot,
Tragedies put everything into perspective-I am sorry for your loss-we too had something terrible happen in my extended family last week!A little girl named Paige, was in the backseat of her parents truck when it was hit. Everyone in the truck escaped with minor injuries but some shattered glass cut Paige's jugular and she bled to death. She was nine years old and a very special child.A very loved child from a very loving family. Our prayers and thoughts are with you Michael and Tammy. The funeral was in Pine Plains, New York yesterday. Now Paige is a real angel.
But somehow, after the tears, we must always end up laughing!jenny

funkycomic,
Hey Man you didn't fall on your face! Your timing was just off and it'll come back to you with more stage time....I just hope that you used new material and nothing you've done before to get easy laughs...trust me It took me a month and a half to get my timing back after my son was born. Just keep hacking at it...Gareth came out to my comedy spot last night and he got to see A comic from the Last comic standing, BOMB horribly. And that same comic is doing Jay Leno tonight. His material was the same polished shit he's been doing for two years. NO GROWTH! He bombed because he couldn't relate to the audience and the material was just spat out when the crowd didn't respond to his bits.
He had good timing just no material...I can not say the comics name (Ralphy May). But It goes to show you that you have to be up on your game. Gareth had a chance to see the full show and he also saw which comics were the joke thieves......and he found out talking to one of the comics on the line up after the show. Keep at it you'll do fine, next time give Margaret Cho some lube and you'll take it better.
Big ups to Gareth for coming out like he said he would, he got to see a good show and hang out with other working comics. Gareth is on his way, networkin 101.

funkycomic,
Thanks for posting this message again (it's sound advice and very heart encouraging) but this was not really what I was thinking. My question was more immediate and I probably didn't phrase it correctly.
I wondered what internal dialogue went through peoples minds whilst they were actually up there. Do you reach a point in the set where you just go - 'fuck it' - or are you not that premeditated?

You get born, you keep your head down and you die - if you're lucky.

Inkblot,
I am very sorry for your loss. Sometimes life has away of keeping everything in perspective for us. Jennifer that is sad also about the nine yr old girl. Life seems so cruel when a young child dies. My prayers are with both of you and your familys.
