Richard Pryor DVD's

Post by dougdigitalpro »

Jen,
Me and bingo were kinda kickin' this around yesterday and I've got a few questions (here I go with the questions again! ;p) about some of the current releases of Mr. P's movies on DVD. Why have some of his best films, "Bustin' Loose", "Stir Crazy" and a few others, why have they gotten kinda whack treatments on DVD? I know Bustin Loose is with some company called Good Times and they did what I think is a horrible job in the DVD release of the film. It's bare bones and the cover is not at all reflective of what the movie is. I would love to see that film with it's original poster art put back in but I know it'll never happen. Will these films ever get updated with bonus material, commentaries, etc. or are they just doomed to these current versions?
Also, will the Bustin Loose & JoJo Dancer soundtracks ever get re-released? Those were some great songs by Roberta Flack and I can't find them anywhere today! :(

dougdigitalpro,
Yeah they should have kept the original art for Bustin Loose It was great!!I think Goodtimes was trying to market more as a family film from the way the packaging looks also (which is when you think about it but I never thought about the movie other that being one my fav movies period!!!!)
Did you ever find the DVD anywhere yet?

dougdigitalpro,

I dont think there would be a special edition of Bustin Loose..but I do belive Stir Crazy and Jo JO should get some kinda treatment. Specaily Stir being that it was the all time top black grossing film (till Scary Movie beat that record.)

Always liked the soundtrack to bustin Loose too. Would luv to see a remake of that film..with Martin lawrance.

dougdigitalpro,
Being that were film buffs ( I'm a filmmaker also) if u were to do a Richard Pryor film, who would u cast? my votes go out to Marlon Wayans (Damon was suppose to play him but I think he's a bit too old now). Cuba Gooding Jr. could do a good job also. Jennifer could be played by kate Winslet or Sandra Bullock. What do u guys think?

jermainebailey,
I think I covered this is another thread but I would go with somebody fresh to play Mr. P. Bring somebody new to the game. He wouldn't have all the celebrity hangups and could just focus on doing a great acting job. Like Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia. That was his first big film role and he knocked it out the park! Also, I don't think there are no major black actors out there who could pull off playing Richard Pryor today. Cuba wouldn't even be NEAR my list! Yeah, somebody new and surround him with a strong supporting cast. To play Jen? Hmmm, Courtney Cox has the right look but I don't know if she could bring the acting chops. Also, Cameron Diaz might be able to do something.
She would have to be somebody with a high spirit level to contrast Mr. P's darker moods I think.
