comedy today
Is it just me or is there a sad lack of comedians with balls out there, or maybe there aren't just many taboos worth breaking, but then again, i see so much worth ripping at. Don't get me wrong, with chris rock (do another goddamn special already) david cross, lewis black (to an extent) but very little else, and those who dare talk about these things, are usually from the same angle, the right...dennis miller, colin quinn (love him, don't get me wrong) most of tough crowd in fact...is it just me?

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!

Re: comedy today
smjmcomic,
I LOVE Lewis Black!!! His comedy central presents special entitled "The End" is hilarious. He speaks out, quite boldly, about Jerry Farwell and the comments Farwell made shortly after the 9/11 disaster.
If you haven't seen it yet, it's worth seeing. I've also had the pleasure of seeing Lewis Black live. He's even more funny in person as he is on T.V. and he must write a lot--he was on stage for an entire hour and every single bit he did was stuff I had never heard before and I've heard a lot of his material cause I dig his stage persona. He reminds me of every working, blue collar guy in America, who pays his taxes, fucks his wife and minds his own business but can't help but be completely fed up with our government b/c they keep fuckin him in the ass
Thanks for mentioning him

yes! i love lewis black! i think the way he uses his own words is awesome.
another comic i really like right now, who's style is more unique than ANYONE elses... is mitch hedberg. he has got an act %100 his own, and he cracks me up big time.

Re: comedy today
Gareth, I love Mitch Hedberg. He's not exactly edgy, but he's such an odd personality with such solid, off-kilter jokes that I just cannot get enough. He apparently has a new CD coming out. I also think that in terms of pushing the envelope, a guy like Dave Chappelle has the most chance of doing it, but Eddie Murphy telling him that Pryor maxed out comedy is pretty true; it's hard to be timely, over-the-top, able to convey your message, and hilarious all at the same time. I've heard good things about Doug Stanhope...
Re: comedy today
NickFlanagan,
mitches new cd is already out. its call "mitch all together"
dave chappelle is great... and i think with some more time... he will be even better than he already is.
doug stanhope had a really funny comedy central presents... but i think his work on the new man show blows. just my opinion. i guess jimmy and adam took any good writers they had with them.

I'm not too big on Mitch he bores me he's ok but in my book he is one of the most over rated comics in the biz.
dave chappelle's show is great they showed a bunch of episodes this weekend I just about pissed myself a few times. Good Stuff!

Both Joe Rogan and Doug Stanhope are funny ass comics but the man sure lost its flare when Adam and Kimmel left.

Re: comedy today
smjmcomic,
I definitely had a soft spot for a lot of elements of The Man Show, even though I found Adam Carolla a bit too Norm Macdonald-like sometimes. Kimmel's funny though. I haven't watched his talk show much. I haven't given the new man show a try yet...I don't really wanna watch TV too much lately; I'm lazy enough as it is. I do watch the Daily Show a lot, and sometimes that show is pretty ballsy. He had senator Schumer on today and it was pretty cool and funny.
I actually am not up to speed on a lot of great comics--Mooney and Carlin for example. I want to hear their newer material for sure.
Oh, I just remembered another comic who's pretty edgy--Robert Smigel. His cartoons on SNL were classic, and the Triumph Dog CD has some very, very funny moments, especially a song called 'you have to work blue'. Has anybody heard it?
