jane_haze,
Yeah, Blaine's who I was talking about. Silly me didn't even realise he was a comic til I googled him after your post. He seems rad! But moving on to shockingly horrific Comedy Central, what about Make Me Laugh? That's a rough one.

NickFlanagan,

The second coming of Make Me Laugh was on in '99, the same year as VS (also a failed CC show). Make Me Laugh was hosted by Mark Cohen who is also a working comic. Now, the show/Mark Cohen wasn't this outstanding piece of small screen history, but it was better than some of that crap they put on CC. *cough*battlebots*cough* I believe I saw Cohen on a comic remix episode (a clip of the A-list or some other old CC stand up shows) once and tough crowd last year sometime.

I know this show wasn't on CC, but was good--Late Friday. I used to stay up till 3 to watch this thing. It was the best stand-up show on! It would have the usual 5 comics on. It always had the working comics of today. Too bad Carson Daly's whack ass show had to take its time spot. ]:o(

Gareth,

You got hobbled in this post man... I think Gareth didn't find the ear that he was looking for, though he may have found it with me.

SweetLuchia got a good wholesome debate going here and Jim is an obvious veteran, and although I may not come across as such I do watch, listen and learn, and Jim does have the goods on it all I'm sure.

Of course it's about the money folks, it's show business and it's expensive. What isn't about the money? Everyone here must make money in some form or another in order to survive in this world. Making a living is a nice way of saying making money. Try starting your own comedy network if you aren't pleased with the current offerings and then be absolutely amazed at the enormous legalities and expenses of running one, not to mention getting around the FCC and the religious fanatics on what you can and can't air and so on. I have an LLC to protect and shield myself and my ventures and just running that can get to be a nightmare in both time and expense all in itself, but it's a necessary evil and it's just the way it is.

I like to imagine, in a dream world, that I can completely separate my art from the business side of it but the fact remains that you still need to make a living, be it from your art or by some other means, and if you do good enough that you can afford to buy your mom a new house then good for you and if not then hopefully you can at least put a roof over your head, eat and pay the bills to free you up in order to be able to create and further your art or whatever it is that you fancy.

Money certainly doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy you the time and space to be happy in, or whatever you want to be in that time and space. I'm not a materialistic person myself, though at times I have been, and I don't see much of anything wrong with being so if you are and have the means as long as you aren't too big of an asshole. How many times have you heard someone with money bitching about it? When you do, and it's rare, it's usually because someone who doesn't have any money wants some of that money. Other than that, life is pretty good...

Comedy Central, though I don't watch much of it at all, could certainly do itself a favor and run some classic works if they aren't, but with the censorship here in the States concerning "filth" I'd much rather watch or listen to the live/un-cut versions of these greats on my own off of DVD, VHS or CD, which, by the way, I had to have money in order to buy these works and enjoy them in the first place.

I just paid off my car after 1,825 days and the fucking thing is falling apart now after years of no troubles, though it's still a really nice car with low miles. To me it's a work of art, beautiful engineering and very sleek, but I don't sit and worry about the fact that the people who designed, financed and put this work of art together were paid in turn to do so or the fact that it took me 5 years of monthly payments after it's completion at the factory in order to own it just in time for it to go to hell on me. It got me around, in style, all those years, and is still kind of getting me around, and that's what I paid for it for and I have no illusions about it.

You know what would be funny... Look up the records on my car on who was on the assembly line and built it all those years ago and make a trip to their house, bang on their door, the door to the house that they paid for with the money they made putting my car together, and when they answer the door yell in their face "You Fucking Sell-Out!" and walk off.

You are always going to find money stuck to the underbelly of all that you see and do, some way, some how. Sometimes you just have to look a little harder, but it's always there. And if you don't want to think about it or accept it's reality then just look the other way and act like it's not there and go about your day.

As for Comedy Central, it's their money and their time so as far as I'm concerned they can do whatever they want with it and if I don't like it I can turn the channel. I've had folks e-mail me and tell me that my site or views disgusts or angers them and I'll reply to them that it's their right to feel that way and if they don't like it then don't come back. I didn't force them to go there so what they fuck do they expect from me when they can't seem to want to leave and even go as far as contacting me, as disgusted as they are.

It's all up to you how you want to perceive and deal with the world around you, even if the reality of it is just a little too creepy to look in the face.
