Nice One....you got me good! I looked at that list and thought "Is that muthafukka dead? I'm sure that he was on TV the other night!!" but since we were all reminiscing all teary-eyed over the dearly departed, I figured "maybe it's true and they're showing repeats!"
JTF,
Yeah, I know about Elbridge Bryant of the pre-David Ruffin Temps. I meant the "original" Temps once they started having hits. I'm impressed that you knew about him.
Its a shame David Ruffin had all the talent in the world but he could not fight off his demons He really fucked that group up. God every member of that groups has had really bad luck I think there's only one or two members still living.
smjmcomic,
Sadly, only Otis Williams and Dennis Edwards (the latter of whom replaced David Ruffin in 1968) are still alive from the group's line-up until through 1971--which is the period when they had the vast majority of their hits. I had the pleasure of meeting the Temps' bass singer, Melvin Franklin, in early 1993, two years before he died--at a Richard Pryor concert no less! I talked to Melvin a bit and got his autograph--a very friendly, down-to-earth guy.
