dougdigitalpro,
You know, Mr. P is one of the few, if ONLY, black actors to make a FEW films dissing the shit out of the MAN!
That alone almost makes it impossible for any other actor to be heir to his throne. Even Denzel can't fuck with that!

dougdigitalpro,
I understand exactly where you are coming from on that because that era played more towards the rawness of Rich!!!
When those 80's hit times changed and the movies that were made just put you in a different state of mind ,but that is not to say that those movies where not good also, just different!!!
Give them later flicks a chance and then go compare them to "Haunted Mansion" and I bet you will agree who the king will always be......
I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!
well i have always loved "Moving". hence my name here. but i do agree that it's not his best work. it's a movie that i always enjoy watching and always makes me laugh. same for "The Toy".
I was reading "Pryor Convictions" the other day, and RP wrote about "Harlem Night" experience. He said he didn't really connect with Murphy. And even though people say they saw Murphy as a continuation of RPs comedy, RP never did see it that. He wrote that he thought Murphy's comedy was too mean spirited. I thought that was very interesting.
Also in the book, RP wrote that the best time he had working on TV in the 70s was on The Flip WIlson Show and Lily Tomlin's TV special.
I remembered last year, I was an extra on "West Wing" playing White House security and had a little exchange with Lily Tomlin's character. in between takes, I asked Ms. Tomlin about working with Richard Pryor on her Lily Tomlin Special. (I'd seen the "Juke and Opal" sketch w/her and RP on a documentary called "Mo' Funny") She was real cool to talk to. I felt as if I was in the presence of a showbiz legend, like I do when RP posts on this site.
MisterTee,
That was a very warm and interesting post!! You are really better than you all allow us to see, aren't you?!
Thank you for that.
Lily is a very kool person and I know she loves RIchard very much; it's so great that she is still so productive and still doing stand-up!

MisterTee,
Yeah keep up the good work boy!!!Remember you can't just come on here talking shit when you still on probation!!!Keep coming with this kind of food for thought and none of those suspect posts and you might be put on house arrest!!!!
That being said you just brought up a good point right there. In the book Richard did tell Eddie to not be as mean spirited.Maybe Eddie is finally taking that advice when he does such movies as Dr.Doolitle and Shrek.
That also had me thinking about career arcs.In the book Richard started out like Cosby and found that he didn't like that style and wanted to find his own voice.Eddie starts off like Pryor and now he wants to pattern himself after [/i]Cosby[/i]!!!!
While Richard found his comedic identity, poor Eddie is is still trying to find his...........

I'll be honest, they showed "Raw" the other night on Comedy Central's Secret Stash and I tried to watch it and just got bored and turned it off. This is a movie I loved back in the 80's. What happened?
Doesn't stand the test of time and it's mean-spirited.
Pryor does and he's not.
Nuff said.
